Cost to Outfit a Firefighter

The High Cost of Firefighting Equipment

Many do not realize how much it costs to equip a volunteer fireman - not to mention the general cost of NFPA certified training, equipment, and vehicles. Our firefighters need this specialized equipment to respond to emergencies in our community. Just simply the gear that a firefighter must wear to protect themselves and their lungs while fighting fires is depicted here is very expensive. The equipment purchase price is just one part of the firefighting equipment cost. Equipment needs to be maintained. If it's not working, firefighters can't effectively protect you or themselves.

Electrical Fires Often Start Hidden
Electrical fires frequently start inside walls where you cannot see them, often caused by faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, or damaged cords. Warning signs include frequently tripping breakers, flickering lights, discolored outlets, or a burning smell with no visible source. If you notice any of these, call a licensed electrician.
Crawl Low Under Smoke
Smoke and toxic gases rise to the ceiling first. In a fire, the breathable air is closest to the floor. If you encounter smoke while escaping, get down on your hands and knees and crawl to the nearest exit. Just a few breaths of toxic smoke can cause disorientation and loss of consciousness.
